Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley, Jr. announced the arrests of 40-year-old Danbury resident Karla Gomes and 33-year-old Shrub Oak resident Peter Cancro, who were busted for driving under the influence by the department in the past week.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, Putnam County Sheriff Sgt. Timothy Keith stopped Gomes in Southeast when she was spotted driving erratically on Route 6. During the subsequent stop, it was determined she was under the influence of alcohol, and she was charged with driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent.
Two days later, at approximately 8:20 p.m., while on patrol in Putnam Valley, Deputy Sheriff Kevin Radovich stopped Cancro on Oscawana Lake Road due to a loud exhaust and busted headlight.
During the stop, Radovich reported that he could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle, prompting further investigation. After failing several Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, a certified Drug Recognition Evaluator arrested Cancro and impounded his car. A pipe containing THC was also recovered in his vehicle.
Cancro was charged with misdemeanor counts of driving while ability impaired by drugs and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Both Gomes and Cancro are due in court at a later date to answer the charges against them.
